General Questions & What to Expect

How long are appointments?

Appointments typically last 1 hour but may be shorter or longer depending upon your specific condition. If it is your first visit or initial evaluation, expect it to take longer.

It is my first appointment, do I need to bring anything specific?

Please bring the script from your medical doctor, your insurance card, a photo ID, any copies of imaging studies (e.g. Reports/Impressions from past X-Ray/MRI/CTs), as well as your filled out paperwork. Paperwork can be found in the patient forms section of the site and this will save you from needing to fill out when you arrive.

It is my first appointment, how early should I arrive?

Please arrive 15 mins early as we may have additional paperwork for you to fill out. Similarly, time slots often move in the schedule and we may be able to fit you in earlier.

What should I wear to therapy?

Wear standard gym attire. Loose clothing is typically preferred so that the therapist can access body regions that may require manual or hands-on techniques without obstruction. Please also wear comfortable shoes.

How often should I come to therapy?

This will be discussed with your therapist upon your initial evaluation and varies from condition to condition. As you make progress in your plan of care, expect to taper off the number of visits per week.

How long till I get better?

There is no easy answer to this question simply because the rehabilitation process is very different for each person due to health history, severity of symptoms, activity levels, co-morbidities, compliance with home exercises, and a collection of other reasons. The best you can do for yourself is to continue working with your therapist on your discussed plan of care.

Can I write you a testimonial?

Yes please do, we love feedback from our patients. There are several ways to accomplish this: 1) the traditional way (pen and paper), 2) online via google reviews, 3) email us your testimonial through the site. Please don’t forget to include whether or not you’d like it displayed only in the office or publicly available (e.g. online).

Insurance & Payment Questions

What forms of payment are acceptable for a co-pay?

We accept all major credit cards as well as cash and certified checks.

How do I know if you accept my insurance?

Please call us if you did not see your insurance listed in the table on the “Services” page. Similarly, it is a good idea to check with us anyway as the state of insurance affairs is often changing.

You don't accept my insurance, can I still come to therapy?

Yes, however you’d likely have to pay out of pocket. Please call us to discuss your specific situation.

I want to come to therapy but do not have a script from a medical doctor, is this possible?

Yes, in NY we have “Direct Access” which means you can come to therapy without a script from an MD. However, we strongly encourage you to check with your insurance company before doing so. Feel free to call us to discuss this further.

I recently changed insurance. What should I do?

Please call us to discuss the details of this matter and we will help you understand your options.

Exercise & Symptoms Questions

I am still dizzy following treatment. Is this normal?

The important thing to note is if your dizziness is less than when you had the treatment. If you came in with vertigo symptoms and were treated for those symptoms, it is not uncommon to feel slightly “foggy” or “off for 24 hours after treatment. This expectation and others will be discussed with your therapist during treatment. If your symptoms are in fact worse, please call to make an appointment.

I lost / Can't remember my home exercises. What should I do?

We cannot stress enough that doing your home exercises is vital for you to achieve your goals. However, if you do not remember what to do or how to do these exercises, then it is likely you won’t be working toward those goals. So, please call us and we can send you another copy of your home exercises via email or text. Or, remind us at your next appointment and we will print them for you again.

I don't understand my home exercise program. Should I do them?

We cannot stress enough that doing your home exercises is vital for you to achieve your goals. However, if you do not understand what to do for your exercises, or do them incorrectly, you may be doing detriment to your plan of care. So, please call us with your specific questions and your therapist will work with you to reach an understanding. Alternatively, if you have an appointment in the next 24-48 hours, feel free to bring your questions in with you for face-to-face discussion.

So do I need to just keep doing these exercises forever?

The exercises you are given are very specific to your condition and are progressive. That means that as you get better, they get more challenging and generally become more globally involved. As such, we do recommend continuing with a progression of your exercises. After all, just because you don’t have symptoms doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t continue to improve how your body works- think of it as preventative medicine. Upon discharge, you will be able to sit down with your therapist and discuss future considerations, one of which is the amount, frequency, and type of recommended training going forward.

The weather is terrible. How do I know if you are open?

Please check our website. You will see a site-wide notice on the homepage should the facility be closed unexpectedly.

How far in advance should I schedule appointments?

We recommend scheduling all your appointments for each week on your first visit of that week. This way, you can develop a rhythm in therapy as you will likely see the same therapist each time, and you are more likely to not miss appointments.
